In New Jersey, we believe marriage should be as it always was intended: between one indicted, orange-faced man, and a woman with high bangs and dead eyes.

So the Catholic Church says the boner is a need, but not getting pregnant is more of a want?

Welp here I go on a rant. Haven’t done one of these in quite a while.

So people are saying that the rape jokes on The Daily Show tonight were distasteful.

It’s called SATIRE people.

For those of you who don’t know what that is I will graciously provide you with the definition:

sat·ire

   [sat-ahyuh r]  Show IPA
noun
1.
the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vicefolly, etc.
2.
a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.

The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, South Park, The Simpsons etc. are satirical shows which use crude humor to call attention towards any given issue or topic. Now if you have a low tolerance for crude humor maybe you should reconsider watching any of these shows.

I myself don’t take too kindly to rape jokes when a situation doesn’t call for it. However if it’s being used in satire to call attention to an important issue such as women in the military being raped by fellow soldiers and it gets the point across, I have no reservations over the jokes being used.

Frankly, if you found them to be in poor taste then you missed the entire point of tonight’s segment.

I fail to see how the rape jokes on tonight’s Daily Show were any more distasteful than Jonathan Swift suggesting we breed children like livestock and chop them up and cook them for sustenance in “A Modest Proposal”.

But I digress, one cannot expect to use satire to bring about change without angering a few people. However, it did bother me that so many of you were more focused on taking offense as opposed to actually taking the time to ponder over exactly why it was that this issue was being satirized.
